This is my first post here. I don’t know what to write, but since I am with something ‘first’ I love so much and so long, guess I’m gonna share you about this story….
I don’t remember exactly how, but I find myself really fond of wristwatch. Yes, wristwatch. Thing that I wore 24 hours a day, seven days a month, and 365 days a year. I wear it when I get shower, sleep, eat, dating, swimming, everything. I always wear my watch. Even when I go somewhere alone, I wear two watches, one for each hand. Some might find it eccentric or douche-bags, but I just want to enjoy them. Too sad for me to close my room’s door and see one of them lie on my desk, un-worn.
Back to the story, it was 7 years ago when I was in my first grade of senior high school. I remember that those days I wore a very cheap G-Shock my Dad bought me when we had a vacation in Singapore. I asked my parents to buy me another one, I reasoned that I am going grow older so I need better watch. But my parents didn’t see it as a proper thing for 16 years old school boy. Never mind, I think. I’ll try by myself. So since that day I am doing extreme saving on my daily spending budget. So extreme, I remembered cooked two or three scrambled eggs every morning. My studying time in school was from 7 to 14.40 in noon. I ate the scrambled eggs a half in the morning and a half in the noon by ketchup (which I brought from home as well). And yes, I didn’t buy one of those sweet drinks or mineral water in food courts, I made them myself in home.
That crazy things went well, and I remember exactly at in 18 December 2005, I finally made a saving for almost Rp 6.500.000,- in my drawer. (It is purely my savings from daily budget) and wrapped it in a white envelope, slipped it to my school’s backpack. And since in my school there’s a strict rules that forbid students to drive their own cars to school, I went walking from my school to a close distant mall. There’s a watch store there. With a high school uniform, I enter that watch store with pride and just point ANY watch I love by sightseeing. Just in minutes, there were almost 10 to 15 watches in the store’s desk. The staff might think this school kids crazy. I sorted down patiently, like I didn’t want to miss any seconds to enjoy that moment. At that time I didn’t even know what’s the difference between quartz and automatic, what is tachymeter, what is water resistant, what is chronograph, what is 25 jeweled machine, etc. I just used my instinct to point one. And since I was born in business-doing family, I negotiate the price, again and again.
And I made it! I pay Rp. 4.275.000 for one simple watch… A first nice watch I have. Not bad for 17 year old boy, eh?
I walked back to school with chest bubbling like a gas balloon, and a very wide smile. There was a very strange warm feeling running down my chest and stomach. A very warm liquid that enlightened every my steps back to the school yards. I still remember that feeling. Is that an enthusiasm or is that just simply happiness? The watch still in it’s box covered with a paper wrap, safely in my backpack. What a crazy boy, I still have time to play basketball before the driver pick me up at 15.00.
That watch still with me. The moment I write this post, I wear that watch. She has lots of scratch in her case and bezel now. The leather strap start to crack and the original color began to shabby.. But fine then, it tells that she be with me most of the time.
So, here she is Tissot PRC200, still ticks sharply and perfectly accurate until now.
Some pics you might want to look;
So, from that very day, my love to watch start extremely fast. I don’t know.. Does it comes by the satisfaction because I finally made up to buy one watch by myself? Or is it that chronograph just plain beautiful?
There is something magic, untold secret creature that hide beneath the surface of the watch. Because that creature just playing around inside and made the entire watch alive….
